Following on the success of our Christmas flower arranging workshop, we’ve planned another evening for Easter!

We had a great time at the workshops, the small groups enabled us to give everyone plenty of personal instruction, and all of the arrangements looked fantastic.  Everyone seemed to have a great time, and there was a really friendly social atmosphere.

For Easter, we’re planning on a really pretty arrangement of spring flowers and foliages, with a natural look.  The workshop is €40 per person, which includes all materials and flowers, and refreshments, too.  No previous experience is necessary, and all ages are invited.

The workshop will be on two nights, Tuesday 19 April and Thursday 21 April, 2011, at 7.30pm. Places are limited as the workshops are taught in small groups…book early to avoid disappointment!

To book, ring us on 021-428-7404.  We look forward to having you join us!

Red Rose by Phoney Nickle on FlickrValentine’s Day is nearly upon us, just as we exhale after the busy Christmas period, time to get out the red ribbons again!

We are looking forward to a busy weekend, as lots of couples celebrate early to take advantage of the weekend, and then our busiest day of the year, February 14th falling on Monday this year.

We have bought in red roses from Ecuador again this year, a variety called ‘Freedom’, which is long lasting with a traditional bright red colouring.  We are pleased to offer a dozen long stemmed red roses for €60, which are presented hand tied with gypsophila and foliage in a carrier box.

We have a vast selection of fresh flowers available, with mixed bouquets to suit any budget.  We also offer teddies, candles, and a selection of handmade gifts and greeting cards.  Daily deliveries are available between now and Monday, with free delivery in Carrigtwohill.

Bouquets can be ordered online or by phone on 021-428-7404, using credit card or Laser, or call in on Monday, we are open 9am-6pm.   If you’d like to be sweet to us, ring your order in ahead so that we can have it ready for you!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

An Afternoon in Amsterdam

Happy New Year, and welcome 2011!  I’m sure we’re all glad to see the back of 2010 with all of it’s hardship, we are delighted to draw a line under it and welcome the new year.  Here is hoping that 2011 brings some positivity and we can finally start growing again!

Great news here at Bloomsday, Noelle and Ross got engaged over the new year!  We thought the day would never come, but Ross finally made good and proposed at midnight on New Year’s Eve while on holiday in Amsterdam.  Congratulations to the happy couple, and let the planning begin!

We have lots of plans for this year in the shop, we are scheduling more workshop evenings after our successful Christmas nights, and are working on filling the shop with a selection of beautiful locally made items by local artists and crafters.  We anticipate a hard year, but as we are all in it together, we may as well get on with it and enjoy ourselves!

Many belated holiday wishes to everyone, and best of luck and health in 2011!

Our first workshop is taking place tonight, but we’ve still places left for the workshop this Thursday, 16 December, at 7pm.  Make  your own Christmas candle centrepiece and enjoy a bite to eat and a bit of chat…and we promise you will leave with a gorgeous arrangement!  The workshop is €40 per person and all materials and refreshments are included.

To book, ring 428-7404.  We look forward to seeing you!

snowberry wedding bouquet inspirationsIt has been positively arctic this last week in Ireland!  Up north, everyone is snowed in, and even down here in Cork we are struggling with the bitter cold and icy roads.

My heart goes out to the couples who have planned their weddings for this week!  Not only is it so hard to travel, but even the logistics of getting everything moved and delivered must be so difficult.  At least they will have beautiful snowy, wintery photos!

If anyone is planning a winter wedding, a suggestion for a beautiful flower to include in bouquets and church flower is the snowberry.  The best feature of the showberry is that it grows really well in Ireland and is easy to find!  Even the imported version from Holland is really reasonably priced and has a long season, starting in late summer through to winter.

Snowberry looks most dramatic in white, but also comes in a pink variety,  It has a woody stem with long, dangling side shoots, and looks beautiful cascading down in a teardrop bouquet or a raised table centre arrangement.  The berries make gorgeous buttonholes, too!

These examples of bouquets made with snowberries may inspire you…the mixed, all white bouquet features a wide ribbon that adds a vintage romantic touch.  A full bouquet of all snowberries looks amazing, and would actually be really good value as it is not an expensive flower.  The buttonholes feature dried scabiosa seed pods, which look great on their own or could even be sprayed silver or gold for a bit of christmas glitz.  The bridal bouquet photos are from Martha Stewart Weddings, and the buttonholes were featured in an amazing wedding blog feature you can view here.

If you are interested in having a consultation for your winter wedding and would like to see some snowberries, just let us know when booking your appointment and we will try to have them in the shop to show you!

We have been busy getting the shop all decorated for Christmas!  The tree is up, and the baubles are hanging from the chandalier, and Claire has made us yards and yards of paper chains to hang from the ceiling…so pretty!  We still have more lights to put up and lots of Christmas goodies to put out, not long now…counting down the days!

Make your own flower arrangement this year at one of our Christmas flower arranging nights!

Join us for an enjoyable evening of creativity, chat, and nice things to eat…and leave with a beautiful Christmas candle table centre arrangement!

All materials and refreshments are included at the workshops taking place at our shop in Main Street, Carrigtwohill, opposite CostCutter Shopping Centre.  Plenty of parking is available.

Plenty of personal instruction will be provided, with a small group on each night, and Jesse and Noelle both there to demonstrate and give advice.  All skill levels are welcome, whether you’ve never done floristry before or are a dab hand,  we promise you will leave with a gorgeous arrangement!

Tuesday night is nearly full, but we’ve added and additional night on Thursday with places left.  The price is €40 per person, and places can be booked by ringing 021-428-7404.

Hope to see you there for a fun night:D
